The paleolithic diet, also
known as the caveman diet is a diet where people eat only foods that are
believed to have been available in the Paleolithic era. Hence its name. The
idea behind this diet is to revert back to the way early humans ate which people
believe is more in tune with the human body. A paleo diet usually consists of
lean meats, fish, fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, and oils from fruits
or nuts. While on the paleo diet, you should avoid foods that became common
when farming emerged such as grains and dairy products, and highly processed
foods.

PROS
Nutrient-Rich- The paleo
diet consists of mainly fruits and vegetables which contain many nutrients that
have varied benefits,
Improved Satiety- While on the
paleo diet, you may notice that you feel more full after meals. This is because
of the combination of healthy fats and vegetables. Fat can be satiating
depending on what it is eaten with. The paleo diet offers the right amount of
fiber in vegetables and the right amount o fat to make you eat less naturally
because you feel more full.
Weight Loss- As is the
case for many diets, this diet aids in weight loss. Part of this weight loss
has to do with the satiety that comes with the paleo diet. When you feel more
full you eat less, which will lead to weight loss.

CONS
Eliminated food groups- The paleo
diet entirely excludes grains and dairy products. Cutting out any food groups
means that you could lose essential nutrients. Of course, it is still possible
to get all the nutrients you need, but it becomes more difficult.
Sustainability- Since this
diet cuts out most processed foods, you will have to make a lot of meals at
home. While this is a healthy habit, it can be expensive and hard to keep up
with.
This is not the Paleolithic Era- While it is
true that most foods have changed due to human impacts such as farming and
processing, we cannot ignore the fact that plants and animals evolve on their
own. There is also not enough evidence to be completely sure of what early
humans ate or all of the foods available to them. For these reasons, it is
impossible to eat just as humans did in the Paleolithic Era.
